“All this ‘I will do one term, I will serve you food,’ that’s not going to work,” Abati said on Arise TV.
LAGOS — Media personality and former presidential spokesperson Reuben Abati has criticised Peter Obi over his recent one-term presidency remark, calling it a “sign of desperation.”
Speaking on Arise Television on Monday, Abati reacted to Obi’s vow to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, stating the promise and theatrics like “serving food” would not sway Nigerians.
“What I am saying is that any politician that comes to you and says that I am going to do only one term, that is a sign of desperation. It will not work,” Abati said.
He likened Obi’s tactics to political gimmicks, including party events where candidates perform stunts to appeal to voters.
“All this ‘I will do one term, I will serve you food,’ that’s not going to work,” he stressed.
Abati added that Nigeria would only progress when voters prioritise competence over ethnicity, religion, or regional interests.
