Wike denies being ‘two-faced’, insists: ‘I’m not Janus, I own my decisions’

Let me say this very clearly: I take serious offence at being compared to Janus.

Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike on Monday firmly rejected characterisations of him as “double‑faced”, declaring: “I’m no Janus, I stand by my choices.” Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, he expressed outrage at being likened to Janus, the Roman god with two faces. “Let me say this very clearly — I take serious offence at being compared to Janus.”

Wike insisted his political stance during the 2023 presidential election was grounded in conviction rather than duplicity. “I didn’t attend the primaries … I made it clear from the start — I wasn’t supporting Atiku. That’s not double‑faced. That’s called standing by your conviction.”

He defended his support for Bola Tinubu and his decision to serve in an APC‑led administration, while stressing he never defected from the PDP. “I believed Tinubu would win … that was a political decision, not a betrayal.”

Wike also referenced past precedent, asking rhetorically: “So, did Bola Ige have a double face?”, drawing comparisons to cross‑party political appointments.
