Trump names Vance his “most likely” MAGA movement successor

‘Well, I think most likely, in all fairness, he’s the Vice President,’ Trump said when asked if Vance was the heir to the MAGA movement

President Donald Trump indicated on Tuesday that Vice President J.D. Vance is “most likely” the heir apparent to lead the Make America Great Again movement in the future, marking his strongest public backing yet for Vance as a prospective 2028 presidential candidate. Speaking at a White House event, Trump said, “In all fairness, he’s the Vice President,” when asked if Vance was MAGA’s successor.

Trump also suggested that Secretary of State Marco Rubio could join Vance on a future Republican ticket, saying Rubio might “get together with J.D. in some form.” However, Trump stopped short of fully endorsing any candidate for the 2028 election, citing the presence of “incredible people” in his Cabinet and noting it is “too early” to discuss the race in detail.

Rubio, who has downplayed ambitions for a 2028 presidential run, praised Vance as “a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that” and emphasized his current focus on serving as Secretary of State. Meanwhile, Trump also stated on CNBC that he would “probably not” run for president again, though he has previously hinted at ways to challenge the constitutional two-term limit.
