Six Nigerian Law School students were among 13 passengers kidnapped on July 26, 2025, while travelling from Onitsha to Yola along the Wukari-Zaki-Biam road in Benue State. David Obiorah, one of the abductees, revealed that the kidnappers — armed Tiv men — intercepted their bus around 9pm near Jootar town and took them 20km into the forest.

Obiorah said the gang, led by a man identified as Matthew, operated freely with community complicity. “They cocked guns in front of toddlers. The women cooked for both us and them,” he said.

Victims were reportedly beaten hourly and forced to drink dirty water. “They demanded ₦10 million, then added ₦200,000 within five minutes,” Obiorah stated. After payment, they were released and walked four hours to safety.

Obiorah criticized police claims of rescue. “We paid and were freed. The police arrived later and claimed credit.” He added, “Let the government continue playing politics with security.” He remains grateful to be alive despite losing valuables and documents.
