ABUJA — The Federal Government has secured a $25.35 million concessionary loan from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to support a large-scale education initiative in Kaduna State.
The loan forms part of a $62.8m blended financing package with international partners to expand access to quality, inclusive education for vulnerable groups, including girls, children with disabilities, and internally displaced persons.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Director of Information at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga, said the project — the Reaching Out-of-School Children programme — aims to enrol more than 100,000 children and rehabilitate over 170 schools.
Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, represented by Minister of State Doris Uzoka-Anite, said, “Each dollar of intervention must translate into real and visible progress.”
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani confirmed the state had provided its $1m counterpart funding, noting education now accounts for 26 per cent of the 2025 budget.
Other partners include the Islamic Development Bank ($10.5m), the Global Partnership for Education ($15.45m grant), and the Education Above All Foundation ($10m grant).
Kuwait Fund Director-General Dr Wahid Al-Bahar called the project “an investment in hope,” stressing its impact will be judged by enrolment and learning outcomes.
