LAGOS — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily withdrawn access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results after detecting technical issues linked to a newly introduced paper serialisation method.
Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, said in a statement that the glitch affected key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. “The issue was traced to a new security measure; paper serialisation, introduced to curb examination malpractice,” she explained.
The method, modelled on practices used by other national examination bodies, was deployed for the first time this year. However, a post-release audit uncovered bugs that may have affected the accuracy of released scores.
“As a responsive and professional body, we have taken immediate steps to correct the anomalies,” Adesina said, noting that the result checker portal has been suspended temporarily.
Affected candidates have been advised to re-check their results after 24 hours, by which time WAEC says the problem will be resolved.
The council apologised to candidates and the public, reaffirming its commitment to fairness, transparency, and excellence in its examination processes.
