The United States has doubled its reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from $25 million to a record $50 million (€43 million). Attorney General Pam Bondi said the move reflects allegations that Maduro is “one of the largest narco-traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security.”

According to Bondi, Maduro has collaborated with criminal networks including Tren de Aragua and Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel to traffic fentanyl-laced cocaine into the US. She said US authorities have seized 30 tons of cocaine linked to him and his associates, nearly seven tons tied directly to Maduro, along with assets exceeding $700 million, including two private jets.

Maduro and other top officials were previously indicted on “narco-terrorism” conspiracy charges during Donald Trump’s first term.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil dismissed the bounty increase as “pathetic” and a “crude political propaganda operation,” insisting the “dignity of our homeland is not for sale.”
