“President Tinubu, you get mind oo. See where we, Nigerian soldiers, are suffering. Look at our houses here, yet you still had the guts to give Super Falcons players ₦150 million each and an apartment, while soldiers fighting at the war front can’t even afford good food.”😳🙆… pic.twitter.com/Xocn7hyG4a

Nigerian soldiers on the frontline have criticised the Federal Government over poor welfare, contrasting their plight with President Bola Tinubu’s recent ₦150 million reward to the Super Falcons.
In a viral video, troops in a remote location showed a makeshift shelter built from dried grass, with mats laid on bare ground amid overgrown bushes. Speaking in Pidgin English, one soldier said: “Tinubu, you get mind… pay footballers almost 150 million. See where men of the Nigerian Army dey sleep.”
Another lamented surviving on ₦1,000 daily, while others disclosed that privates earn about ₦200,000 monthly and corporals ₦250,000–₦300,000. “We no be prisoners,” one remarked.
The backlash followed Tinubu’s reception for the Super Falcons after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, rewarding each player with $100,000 and a three-bedroom house.
Defending the gesture, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga said it recognised “excellence, creativity, hard work, soccer artistry and the undying Nigerian spirit,” likening it to BBNaija’s ₦150 million prize.
