A couple in south-eastern Brazil died after their car plunged 1,300ft (around 400m) from a cliff while they were reportedly engaged in sexual activity inside the vehicle.
Police identified the victims as Adriana Machado Ribeiro, 42, and Marcone da Silva Cardoso, 26.
The pair had spent Sunday night, August 3, at a party with Marcone’s brother and his girlfriend before driving to a hang-gliding launch ramp in Venda Nova do Imigrante. Investigators believe their movements inside the parked car caused it to roll over the edge at about 1am on August 4.
Police officer Alberto Roque Peres said, “There were no signs of violence at the scene or on the bodies, and the car’s handbrake was engaged.” The vehicle reportedly fell 100 metres, ejecting the couple after hitting a rock, before rolling another 300 metres.
A caretaker discovered the wreckage around 7am. Marcone’s body was found at the foot of the cliff, while firefighters retrieved Adriana’s remains. The couple, together for six months, had no history of disputes or criminal records. Adriana leaves behind two children from a previous relationship.
