WAEC reported that 1,763,470 candidates’ results have been fully processed, while 205,916 remain pending. Results of 191,053 candidates were withheld over alleged malpractice.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has released corrected results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) after detecting grading errors that distorted candidates’ performance.

At a press briefing in Lagos on Friday, WAEC Nigeria’s Head, Dr. Amos Dangut, admitted that a wrongly assigned serialised code file for the English Language Objective Test led to incorrect marking.

“With deep sorrow and regret… we apologise for the discrepancies discovered in the grading of serialised papers,” he said.

The revision shows that 1,239,884 candidates (62.96%) earned five credits, including English and Mathematics — a significant rise from the earlier 38.32% figure. However, this is still below the 72.12% recorded in 2024.

WAEC reported that 1,763,470 candidates’ results have been fully processed, while 205,916 remain pending. Results of 191,053 candidates were withheld over alleged malpractice.

Candidates can check results on waecdirect.org and access digital certificates within 48 hours after verification.

WAEC assured stakeholders of measures to prevent recurrence and urged indebted state governments to settle outstanding payments to enable affected candidates to view their results.
