“Don’t try to drive me away, even though I know you cannot,” he said. “When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart.”
General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has dismissed what he described as “subtle agitations” over his succession, insisting that only God will decide when he steps aside.
Speaking during a Bible study programme—shared online and reported by Church Times Nigeria—the 83-year-old cleric responded to remarks from a young preacher who recently said “there is no leadership without a successor.” Kumuyi said such comments were unnecessary while he remained active.
“God will give a successor at His own time,” he stated, stressing that biblical precedent shows leadership change is divinely appointed.
“I reject any member… who tries to control me,” Kumuyi declared. “I won’t even take that from my wife because I am the head of the home.”
While acknowledging a successor will eventually emerge, Kumuyi urged members not to undermine his mission. “Don’t try to drive me away, even though I know you cannot,” he said. “When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart.”
