Oyintiloye calls for unity among southern political and traditional leaders to shield Tinubu from alleged northern opposition to his 2027 bid.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged political and traditional leaders in Southern Nigeria to unite behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye alleged that a small clique of northern elites was plotting to derail the President’s re-election.
“This has been recurring, and the nation’s political history won’t forget the kind of intimidation Southern Presidents often suffered,” he said. He appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and other southern royal leaders to spearhead mobilisation for Tinubu’s bid, while working with northern counterparts.
Oyintiloye also called on former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and other southern elders to “defend Southern Nigeria from the few Northern power mongers.” He expressed confidence that Tinubu’s second term would enhance unity and equitable infrastructure development nationwide.
