Chelsea wrapped up their shortened pre-season in style, defeating AC Milan 4-1 at Stamford Bridge, with Liam Delap netting twice.
Chelsea ended their truncated pre-season preparations with an emphatic 4-1 victory over 10-man AC Milan at Stamford Bridge. An early own goal from Andrei Coubis and a header from Joao Pedro put Enzo Maresca’s side in control before Coubis was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
Liam Delap extended the lead from the penalty spot after Estevao Willian was fouled, before adding his second with a composed finish from Andrey Santos’ precise pass. Milan’s Youssouf Fofana briefly reduced the deficit, but the Blues’ dominance never waned.
Concerns over Trevoh Chalobah’s ankle injury were eased as Maresca confirmed his substitution was precautionary. Chelsea captain Reece James said, “We are confident. We are world champions… This season, everyone is excited.”
Joao Pedro, who also scored, praised Delap’s performance: “It is very good for Chelsea to have both strikers at a good level… I am very happy for him.”
Chelsea face Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener next Sunday.
