The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) has urged parents to give female children equal access to education and skills training as their male counterparts.

Speaking at the 34th FOMWAN Youth Camp in Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday, the South-West Zonal Coordinator, Alhaja Sariyu Olaoye, stressed that women are “nation builders” when given equal opportunities.

The camp, themed Empowered Voices, Greener Choices, began on Friday and was hosted by the Ondo State chapter of the association.

“We want to bring our youth to the limelight… to ensure that our girls are mainly better equipped and useful in society,” Olaoye said. She added, “When you train a girl child, you train a nation… Training of female children is not a loss, because women are nation builders.”

Ondo State FOMWAN President, Alhaja Medinat Omikunle, said the annual programme trains young women to be virtuous and impactful.

Chief Imam of Akure, Abdulhakeem Yayi-Akorede, commended the initiative and encouraged women to keep supporting men in nation-building.
