In a statement on Tuesday, National Publicity Secretary Jare Ajayi said Afenifere had neither sent a delegation to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta nor issued any related statement.
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation Afenifere has denied reports claiming it endorsed a coalition of opposition parties adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform for the 2027 elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, National Publicity Secretary Jare Ajayi said Afenifere had neither sent a delegation to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta nor issued any related statement.
Ajayi clarified that while two delegation members — Sola Ebiseni and Akin Osuntokun — are notable Afenifere chieftains, their visit was personal. Both played key roles in Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, as did other attendees who are not Afenifere members.
“Afenifere is not against any political group, but it is non-partisan,” Ajayi stressed, adding the organisation represents all Yorubas, regardless of political affiliation.
He described coalition talk as a “distraction,” reaffirming Afenifere’s focus on supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to restore and reposition Nigeria in the national interest.
