Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has detailed how he and ex-Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi initiated discussions that eventually led to the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as an opposition coalition platform.

Speaking on an X Spaces programme, Weekend Politics, Amaechi claimed the coalition began at the home of businessman Nasiru Danu, alongside Salihu Mohammed Mustapha and others.

“ADC has overgrown those that started it,” Amaechi said. He alleged that after reconciliation talks, they engaged a consultant to identify a suitable political structure, eventually settling on ADC, which agreed to surrender its leadership to accommodate the coalition.

The coalition now reportedly includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other prominent politicians.

However, Fayemi, through his media aide Ahmad Sajoh, rejected the claims, stating: “We have found no credible evidence to support it.” He insisted Fayemi remains a loyal APC leader in Ekiti, backing Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election bid.

“We urge the public to treat any news concerning Fayemi with caution, particularly when it originates solely from social media,” the statement added.
