“While the pair were working out which post code they were in, Semenyo… fired a low strike into the bottom corner.”
Liverpool began their Premier League title defence with a dramatic 4-2 win over Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday, thanks to late goals from Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah.
The hosts took a first-half lead through debutant Hugo Ekitike, before Cody Gakpo doubled shortly after the restart. Bournemouth fought back, with Antoine Semenyo scoring twice to level. His 64th-minute tap-in and a solo effort in the 78th minute looked set to earn the visitors a rare point.
But Liverpool regained control in the closing stages. Chiesa netted his first Premier League goal in the 87th minute, capitalising on a deflected cross from Salah. In stoppage time, Salah himself cut inside and finished clinically to seal the result.
The win came on an emotional day for the club, as tributes were paid to the late Diogo Jota. Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s side now top the table after one game, with their next fixture promising another stern test.
