Harry Kane and Luis Diaz were on target as Bayern Munich defeated Stuttgart 2-1 on Saturday to claim the German Super Cup for a record 10th time.
The annual match, contested between the Bundesliga champions and DFB-Pokal winners, was held for the first time under its new name, the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup, in honour of the German football legend who died in 2024.
Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute after combining with Michael Olise, firing a low shot into the bottom corner. The England captain has now scored 86 goals in 97 appearances for Bayern.
Backed by 60,000 home fans, Stuttgart pressed for an equaliser in the second half, but Bayern doubled their lead in the 77th minute when Diaz headed in from close range. The Colombian celebrated by mimicking former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota’s trademark video-game pose, a tribute to the Portugal winger who died in a car crash in July.
Jamie Leweling pulled one back for Stuttgart in stoppage time, but Bayern held firm to lift the season’s curtain-raising trophy.
