“The subsidy is expected to bring immediate financial relief to thousands of Nigerians battling kidney disease.”
The Federal Government has subsidised the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals across Nigeria, reducing the price of each session from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
The new policy, approved by President Bola Tinubu, was announced on Monday by his Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala. He said the intervention is expected to bring immediate financial relief to thousands of Nigerians living with kidney disease.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark subsidy to ease the cost of kidney dialysis for Nigerians,” Bwala stated. “With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000, bringing relief to thousands of citizens battling kidney-related diseases.”
The subsidy has already taken effect in ten major federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across the six geopolitical zones, including UCH Ibadan, LUTH Lagos, FMC Abuja, UMTH Maiduguri, and UBTH Benin. More centers will be added before year-end.
