Anambra State Government has detained security operatives filmed assaulting corps member Jennifer Elobor, sparking nationwide outrage.
Anambra State Government has condemned the assault of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elobor, by operatives of its security outfit, confirming their arrest and detention.
The viral video of the incident showed armed operatives storming a lodge, accusing corps members of internet fraud. The footage revealed Ms Elobor being beaten, her clothes torn, and left partly unclothed, sparking nationwide outrage.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, described the act as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” while confirming on Channels Television that the officers were now in custody.
He explained that the assault occurred during a joint security operation, Operation Udo Gatchi, when the operatives, pursuing suspected cultists, entered a residential compound.
“Immediately the incident happened, we arrested the operatives involved and placed them in detention,” Emeakayi said, stressing that disciplinary measures are ongoing.
He assured that Soludo’s administration will not tolerate abuse of power against innocent citizens.
