The Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum (NENF) has warned that retaining a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2027 could cost the APC more states and worsen religious tensions.
The Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum (NENF) has urged President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to abandon any plans of repeating a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in 2027.
The forum, representing over 200 northern ethnic groups, said 127 associations have endorsed its position, warning that such a move would “deepen divisions and undermine unity.” It specifically advised Tinubu to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima for a Christian running mate.
In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Dominic Alancha, the group noted that the 2023 ticket strained interfaith relations, leading to APC’s poor showing in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and the FCT.
“Over 80 percent of Northern Christians rejected the APC in 2023. Retaining the same strategy in 2027 could cost the party more states,” it said.
NENF stressed that inclusivity is key, urging Tinubu to nominate a northern Christian to “heal divisions and broaden APC’s appeal.”
