Newcastle dressing room is split after Alexander Isak accused the club of “broken promises” in a statement demanding a move to Liverpool.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has deepened his push to join Liverpool, releasing a strongly-worded statement accusing the club of breaking promises, a move that has reportedly divided the dressing room.

The Swedish forward, 25, has refused to train with his teammates and skipped the club’s pre-season tour of Asia. In a statement on Tuesday, he declared: “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

While Newcastle players are said to be united in spirit, reports suggest the squad is split over Isak’s stance. Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes offered a subtle response by posting a picture of himself in a Newcastle shirt, reaffirming his loyalty to the club. Anthony Gordon has also spoken publicly, insisting the squad remains tight-knit despite the fallout.

Newcastle swiftly issued a statement denying any prior agreement to sell the striker. The club said: “We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak. We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, are reported to be preparing a British record bid to test Newcastle’s resolve before the transfer window closes.
