Justice Nwite ruled that the EFCC’s application to freeze Kyari’s accounts was “meritorious.”
Justice Emeka Nwite has explained why he granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) an ex parte order to freeze three bank accounts belonging to former NNPCL chief Mele Kyari.
The frozen accounts, domiciled in Jaiz Bank, contain N661.4 million linked to Kyari, the Guwori Community Development Foundation, and its Flood Relief account. EFCC lawyer Ogechi Ujam argued the order was necessary to aid investigations.
“I found that this application is meritorious, and it is hereby granted as prayed,” Justice Nwite ruled.
The judge fixed September 23 for the report on the accounts’ ownership.
Kyari, sacked in April 2025, has denied fraud allegations arising after his removal.
