Gusau residents and lawyers have petitioned Zamfara’s governor after Ronchess Global Resources allegedly stalled a N8.7bn road project, worsening local hardship.
Residents of Gusau, Zamfara State, have decried worsening hardship after Ronchess Global Resources Plc allegedly stalled work on a major road project despite receiving N8.7 billion from the state government.
Sources within the company told SaharaReporters that the management is deliberately slowing down construction on the Tankin-Ruwa Cinema Link Road to push for contract variations that would enable it to collect more money. “Between August 9, 2023, and January 28, 2025, Ronchess has been paid the sum of N8.7 billion,” an insider said, alleging the firm was repeating a pattern previously used in Kaduna State.
The abandoned project has left residents grappling with blocked access roads, damaged water pipelines, and health hazards from stagnant debris. “Every day our children walk through dust and broken roads just to get to school. Many have fallen sick,” a schoolteacher lamented.
On August 19, a group of public interest lawyers petitioned Governor Dauda Lawal, demanding urgent action and sanctions against the company.
