Defence Chief General Christopher Musa says Nigerians should be grateful for progress against insecurity, citing recent arrests of Boko Haram and Ansaru leaders as major achievements.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has urged Nigerians to appreciate the progress being made in tackling insecurity across the country.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, General Musa highlighted recent successes of the Nigerian Armed Forces, including the arrest of the son of Boko Haram’s founder and key commanders of the terror group Ansaru.

He stressed that while insecurity remains a challenge, it cannot be eradicated instantly. “I think we should be very grateful that things are really picking up. I don’t think there’s any country that has 100% peace,” he said.

The Defence Chief explained that Nigeria’s fight against terrorism spans over 16 years, making it unrealistic to expect complete peace in a short period. He however maintained that giant strides have been recorded.

“We just mentioned the Ansaru commanders that were arrested. This is one of the most significant arrests that have been made; getting the two of them shows how detailed the planning was,” Musa added.
