In his new book, former President Olusegun Obasanjo alleges Nigeria’s judiciary is “deeply compromised,” labeling it a “court of corruption rather than a court of justice.” He also accuses INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu of subverting the people’s will in elections since 2015.

In his new book, Nigeria: Past and Future, former President Olusegun Obasanjo delivers a scathing indictment of Nigeria’s judiciary and electoral body. He describes the judiciary as “deeply compromised,” labeling it “a court of corruption rather than a court of justice.”

Obasanjo alleges the integrity of the courts has suffered a “precipitous fall,” with justice becoming a purchasable commodity. He sharply criticized INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, accusing him of undermining elections since 2015, saying Yakubu made “his will greater and more important than the will of the people.”

The former president also accused the late President Muhammadu Buhari of colluding with judges during election cases, claiming he rewarded them financially and with appointments “no matter their age and their ranks.” Obasanjo’s remarks highlight profound concerns about institutional corruption and electoral integrity in Nigeria.
