Igbo apex group Ohanaeze Ndigbo says it will not field a candidate against President Tinubu in 2027, insisting the Southeast’s best chance for the presidency is in 2035.

The Igbo apex group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says no candidate from the Southeast will contest the presidency against President Bola Tinubu in 2027, noting that the region’s best chance to produce a president lies in 2035.

In a statement signed by Deputy President General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and National Spokesman Chief Thompson Ohia, the group said the decision followed a meeting with Southeast political leaders, Imeobi and Nzukoumunna.

“Ohanaeze affirms our unwavering support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, projecting that approximately 95% of Igbo votes will rally behind this cause,” the statement read.

They stressed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) offers the most practicable platform for the Igbo presidency, endorsing Works Minister David Umahi as the most qualified candidate for 2035.

The group urged strategic alliances with other regions, adding that the decision aims to nurture stability and secure political opportunities for the Southeast.
