Chris Christie warned that Ghislaine Maxwell’s praise of President Trump is likely motivated by her pursuit of a pardon.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has cautioned against taking Ghislaine Maxwell’s praise of President Trump at face value, suggesting she is seeking a presidential pardon.
Maxwell, convicted in 2021 of sex trafficking, told Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in a July interview that she “never saw President Trump do anything illegal,” while calling him “very cordial and very kind.” She added she admired his rise to the presidency.
Christie, appearing on ABC’s This Week Sunday, dismissed her comments. “She might as well have taken out Donald Trump, or President Trump, and said, ‘the man who can pardon me has never done anything wrong,’” he said. “Why should we believe a damn thing Ghislaine Maxwell has to say about anyone?”
Trump has not ruled out a pardon, saying last month, “I’m allowed to do it, but it’s something I haven’t thought about.” Maxwell is appealing her 20-year sentence after being moved to a Texas prison.
