Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, dismissing reports suggesting he may opt out.
“I will run in 2027. Nigeria needs to be decisively rescued from the intensive care unit it has been consigned to,” Atiku said during a phone conversation with his media aide, Tunde Olusunle.
He stressed that his ambition is not a “do-or-die” affair but a mission to rebuild the nation. “The degeneration in our country, the level of poverty and pain, the anguish, is unacceptable,” he stated.
The former presidential candidate, who is aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), vowed to lead a coalition capable of “upstaging the status quo” in 2027.
“ADC is leading a potent mass movement which will shock the world,” Atiku said, dismissing concerns over the party’s recent bye-election performance.
He pledged to restore accountability and values, promising to champion Nigeria’s reclamation and reconstruction.
