A Maiduguri woman earning N30,000 monthly returned money mistakenly credited to her account, citing the fear of God and earning widespread praise for her honesty.
A Maiduguri health worker, identified as Faiza, has been praised for her honesty after returning money that was mistakenly credited to her bank account.
Speaking to journalists, Faiza said she chose to send the money back “due to the fear of God.” She explained, “The money does not belong to me. I returned it to have a peace of mind, and avoid God’s punishment on the day of judgement.”
Faiza noted that it took her three days to complete the bank process, during which she was restless and unable to eat properly. “I couldn’t eat well throughout the process, until the day I finally transferred the money to the owner,” she told News Central.
Bank staff and neighbors described her as a woman of discipline and modesty, raising five children on a N30,000 monthly salary. One bank worker said her act was remarkable compared to others who had previously squandered such funds.
