PDP Zones Presidential Ticket To South

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday resolved to zone the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

The decision, taken during the NEC’s 102nd meeting in Abuja, followed the recommendation of the zoning committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.


ACF Warns North ‘Pushed To The Wall’ By Crises

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has warned that Northern Nigeria is being pushed to the wall due to worsening insecurity, poverty, and environmental challenges.

Speaking at the forum’s 78th NEC meeting in Kaduna, Chairman Mamman Osuman said the region could no longer remain silent in the face of mounting crises.


PDP Confirms Damagum As National Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed Ambassador Umar Damagum as its substantive National Chairman.

His appointment was ratified on Monday during the party’s NEC meeting, where he thanked members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for their support while he served in an acting capacity.


Four Killed In Delta Road Crash

Four people died while two others sustained injuries when a trailer transporting cement lost control and fell on a tricycle near the Second Niger Bridge, Asaba, Delta State.

State FRSC Commander Frederick Ogidan confirmed the accident and blamed it on overspeeding.


NDLEA Arrests Drug Kingpin, Five Others In Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 55-year-old suspected drug baron Mohammed Abubakar, also known as Bello Karama, and five members of his syndicate at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

The group was accused of specialising in planting drugs in passengers’ luggage.


Naira Strengthens In Parallel Market, Weakens Officially

The Naira appreciated to ₦1,540 per dollar in the parallel market on Monday, an improvement from ₦1,550 last weekend.

However, it depreciated to ₦1,536.99 per dollar at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM).


FG Shuts 22 Illegal Colleges Of Education

The Federal Government has closed 22 illegal Colleges of Education across the country as part of efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s education sector.

The development was revealed in a recent report released by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and made available to journalists on Monday.


Three Farmers Drown In Borno Boat Mishap

Three farmers lost their lives on Monday after a boat conveying yams capsized at Kubo ward in Shani Local Government Area of Borno State.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the boat, which carried 20 passengers, was overloaded. Seventeen farmers were rescued.


INEC Records 1.3m Voter Pre-Registrations In One Week

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Monday that 1,379,342 Nigerians completed online pre-registration in the first week of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, held between August 18 and 24, 2025.

The figures were contained in INEC’s State Pre-Registration Report released to journalists.


FG Launches Digital Portal For Teachers’ Database

The Federal Government on Monday launched a digital portal to create a credible database of teachers, streamline licensing, and enhance professionalism in the education sector.

The initiative was unveiled in Abuja by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria in partnership with the UK-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bashir Ojulari, has said crude oil theft across Africa involves sophisticated international syndicates exploiting security gaps.

Speaking at the Africa Chief of Defence Staff Conference in Abuja, he noted that while crude theft in the Niger Delta has recently reduced, stronger national and continental security frameworks are needed.


JAMB Orders Candidates To Re-Upload WAEC Results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all candidates seeking admission to re-upload their 2025 WASSCE results.

In a statement on Monday, JAMB said previously uploaded results had been cleared from its system to avoid confusion. It warned that failure to comply with the directive would affect candidates’ admission eligibility.
