Nigeria’s police, in cooperation with INTERPOL and Chinese authorities, arrested fugitive gang leader Dai Qisheng in Abuja on August 8, 2025, and successfully repatriated him to Beijing on August 15, underscoring Nigeria’s resolve to combat transnational organised crime.

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that Mr. Dai Qisheng, a notorious Chinese mob boss wanted in Guizhou Province for violent organised crimes, has been repatriated to China following a swift INTERPOL-led operation.

Authorities report that Dai fled China in 2024 after an arrest warrant was issued by the Zhijin County Public Security Bureau. He was tracked to Abuja, where INTERPOL NCB agents conducted surveillance and apprehended him on August 8, 2025.

Force spokeswoman Muyiwa Adejobi announced that Dai was handed over to Chinese officials and flown to Beijing on August 15, 2025, as part of a police-to-police cooperation initiative involving INTERPOL NCB Abuja, INTERPOL NCB Beijing, and the Chinese Embassy.

In a force statement, the Nigeria Police Force highlighted that: “This decisive action… underscores the Force’s unyielding commitment to its fight against transnational organised crime.”

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun emphasised that the arrest and extradition send a clear signal that “Nigeria will not be used as a haven for foreign fugitives,” and reaffirmed the force’s dedication to strengthening international partnerships to ensure borders are no barriers to justice.
