“I now resume office as the authentic National Chairman of our great party,” says Bala.
The leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) deepened on Wednesday as Nafiu Bala assumed office, declaring himself the party’s authentic National Chairman.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters, Bala said the electoral act and ADC constitution make him the natural successor following the resignation of Ralph Nwosu.
“As far as our party is concerned, the electoral act and our party constitution says the deputy National Chairman can take over the leadership of the party. I now resume office as the authentic National Chairman of our great party, the African Democratic Congress,” Bala stated.
Nwosu resigned after the opposition coalition adopted ADC, leading to the appointment of David Mark as interim chairman. Bala, however, rejected the arrangement, accusing coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of hijacking the party.
He stressed that the party’s constitution is clear on succession, insisting his resumption is lawful.
