President Javier Milei was pelted with stones during a campaign rally near Buenos Aires as corruption allegations against his sister fueled violent clashes.

Argentine President Javier Milei was attacked with stones during a campaign rally in Lomas de Zamora, near Buenos Aires, on Wednesday, amid mounting anger over a corruption scandal involving his sister.

AFP reporters confirmed that Milei, who was greeting supporters from the back of a pickup truck, came under a barrage of rocks, bottles, and plants thrown by demonstrators.

Presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni said Milei was unharmed as security whisked him away. His sister, Karina Milei, who also serves as presidential secretary, was in the vehicle.

Following the attack, violent clashes broke out between supporters and opponents, leaving one female Milei supporter hospitalized with rib injuries.

The unrest coincides with revelations from leaked recordings by former disability agency chief Diego Spagnuolo, alleging Karina Milei diverted funds intended for people with disabilities. Milei dismissed the claims, stating, “Everything (the agency head) says is a lie.”

The president continues campaigning for Argentina’s October mid-term elections despite the controversy.
