Physicists suggest existence of a mirror universe moving backward in time

A new theory suggests a mirror universe running backward in time may explain dark matter.

Scientists have proposed a theory that a “mirror” or anti-universe running backward in time could explain the mystery of dark matter. The concept suggests that before the Big Bang, an opposite universe might have existed, spreading out in reverse, creating symmetry with our forward-moving universe.

In a paper published in Annals of Physics, researchers from Canada’s Perimeter Institute wrote: “Among other things, we shall describe in detail a remarkable consequence of this hypothesis, namely a highly economical new explanation for the cosmological dark matter.”

According to the theory, dark matter could be right-handed neutrinos—tiny particles mirroring the left-handed ones we know. This model also challenges the need for cosmic inflation, proposing instead that matter expanded naturally over time.

Dark matter remains one of science’s greatest mysteries, forming most of the universe’s matter yet remaining invisible. This hypothesis could bring physicists closer to understanding what lies beyond the Big Bang.
