Former presidential candidate Kingsley Moghalu has urged Nigeria’s opposition to unite, embrace civil disobedience, and pursue reforms if they hope to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.

Former presidential candidate and political economist, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has advised Nigeria’s opposition parties to abandon their reliance on media statements and instead adopt civil disobedience and mass action if they are serious about defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Moghalu made the remarks on Saturday, August 30, during the Diaspora Dialogues podcast hosted by Professors Farooq Kperogi, Moses Ochonu, and Dr. Osmund Agbo.

Speaking on “The State of the Opposition Ahead of 2027,” he argued that “press conferences and media statements are ineffective in confronting entrenched political structures.”

The former Central Bank deputy governor called for a united opposition, estimating the chances of a single candidacy at “between 70 and 75 percent,” though he admitted ego clashes and regional ambitions remain obstacles. He warned that without unity, “the opposition risks repeating the mistakes that have kept the ruling party dominant.”

Moghalu also renewed his advocacy for a six-year, one-term rotational presidency, stressing it would strengthen cohesion and reduce ethnic rivalry.

He criticised Nigeria’s democracy as “a competition among elites for power” and urged both citizens and the diaspora to push harder for reforms, including diaspora voting rights.
