Erik ten Hag is facing possible dismissal at Bayer Leverkusen after a poor start that has fueled internal criticism just two games into the Bundesliga season

Erik ten Hag is reportedly on the verge of being sacked by Bayer Leverkusen just two Bundesliga games into his tenure. The former Manchester United manager has come under “massive criticism internally,” according to German outlet Kicker, after collecting only one point from his opening matches.

Leverkusen lost their opener 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim before throwing away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 against 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday. The disappointing results have left the club languishing in the lower half of the table.

Expectations are high following Xabi Alonso’s successful spell, where Leverkusen won a domestic double and reached the Europa League final in 2023-24. His successor managed a DFB-Pokal win earlier this month but endured a shaky pre-season, including a 5-1 defeat to Flamengo’s under-20s.

Ten Hag, dismissed by United last October, only took charge in May. Despite his earlier successes with Ajax and cup victories in England, his position in Germany now appears precarious.
