NiMet has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rains across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday, urging citizens to take safety precautions.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country between Monday and Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said northern states including Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe would experience thunderstorms on Monday morning, with heavier rains later in Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna, and Adamawa.

In the central region, light rains are expected in Plateau and Niger, followed by thunderstorms across Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The southern region will see cloudy skies in the morning, with light to moderate rains later in states such as Lagos, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, thunderstorms are projected to persist across much of the north and central regions, with moderate rainfall dominating the south.

NiMet urged the public to take precautions, including avoiding driving during heavy rain, securing loose objects, and disconnecting electrical appliances during storms.
