FG unveils new curriculum for primary, secondary, and technical schools

The Federal Government has launched a new curriculum for basic, secondary, and technical schools to reduce subject overload and improve quality learning outcomes.

The Federal Government has introduced a new curriculum framework for basic, senior secondary, and technical education aimed at easing content overload and improving learning quality across schools.

A statement from the Ministry of Education said the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, made the announcement on behalf of Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa. She explained that the review was undertaken in partnership with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and other stakeholders.

Under the new structure, Primary 1–3 pupils will take 9–10 subjects, Primary 4–6 will take 10–12, Junior Secondary students 12–14, Senior Secondary 8–9, and technical schools 9–11 subjects.

Prof. Ahmad said the reforms will “reduce content overload, give students more time to learn, and align education with contemporary global realities,” while assuring strict monitoring for smooth implementation nationwide.
