Newcastle teammates Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman expressed support for Alexander Isak after his £125m Liverpool move despite the acrimony surrounding his transfer.
Newcastle United stars Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman have offered public support to Alexander Isak following his record-breaking transfer to Liverpool.
The Sweden international sealed a £125million Deadline Day move after weeks of tension with Newcastle, during which he accused the club of breaking promises and refused to feature in their opening three league matches. His switch was confirmed only after the Magpies secured Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade as a replacement.
Despite criticism from some Newcastle supporters, Gordon and Botman struck a different tone in their tributes. “Regardless of the situation & what’s gone on, it’s been a pleasure to play with you,” Gordon posted. “One of the best chemistries I’ve had on the pitch and more importantly a great person and teammate. I wish you nothing but the best brother.”
Botman echoed the sentiment, writing: “What started off as teammates growed in one of my rare best friendships. No more words needed brother, all the best in your next chapter.”
Isak, now with Sweden ahead of World Cup qualifiers, has remained quiet since signing but is expected to focus quickly on match action. His agent, Vlado Lemic, criticized Newcastle in a parting shot, while Sweden coach Jon Dahl Tomasson praised his player’s professionalism.
