Tinubu courted CPC leaders for 2027 support, declaring Nigeria had met its revenue target and would no longer borrow, despite concerns over fiscal transparency.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday met with leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Abuja, seeking to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The meeting rekindled efforts to secure the historic 12.7 million votes often credited to late President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu also announced that the Federal Government would no longer rely on borrowing to fund obligations, citing improved revenue performance. “We have met our revenue target. Nigeria is not borrowing again. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for an exchange rate anymore. The naira is stabilising,” he said.

According to official data, tax collections rose 43 per cent in the first half of 2025, with non-oil revenue driving growth. However, concerns remain over the absence of budget implementation reports since last year.

CPC leaders, led by former Nasarawa State governor Tanko Al-Makura, pledged nationwide mobilisation for Tinubu, while Speaker Tajudeen Abbas insisted the bloc remained united.
