Former President Goodluck Jonathan said Nigerian politics is riddled with “betrayals and lies” while praising Mike Ogiadomhe as a rare loyal ally.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday described Nigeria’s political landscape as one dominated by “betrayals and lies,” while paying tribute to his former Chief of Staff, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, during his 70th birthday celebration in Benin City.

The event drew several dignitaries, including former governors Lucky Igbinedion, Osarhiemen Osunbor, Adams Oshiomhole, and Ibrahim Dakwambo, alongside Edo State Chief Judge Daniel Okungbowa, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Blessing Agbebaku, and traditional rulers.

Jonathan praised Ogiadomhe as a rare loyal ally in politics. “When I became president, then post presidency, one of the few friends that could give up their necks for me is Mike. You know politics, in the Nigerian standard, is about betrayals,” Jonathan said.

He added: “I’ve witnessed a lot of betrayals, especially my 2015 election, and Mike is somebody who would take a bullet on my behalf… most other politicians, you cannot take their words to the bank.”

Other speakers, including Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, Igbinedion, and Oshiomhole, commended Ogiadomhe’s loyalty, leadership, and family support.
