Former US President Joe Biden has undergone surgery for skin cancer, his spokeswoman confirmed on Thursday.
Biden, 82, recently had Mohs surgery, a procedure in which cancerous skin tissue is removed layer by layer until no evidence of the disease remains. His spokeswoman disclosed the information to CBS News, though she did not provide further details about his current condition.
The former president was seen in recent days with a wound on the right side of his head.
In 2023, Biden had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest during a routine health check, and earlier this year he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
“Cancer touches us all,” Biden wrote in May. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”
Biden, who has stepped back from public life since leaving office, lost his son Beau to brain cancer in 2015.
