President Trump has issued his 200th executive order in just over seven months, setting a modern record.
President Trump has signed his 200th executive order since returning to office in January, marking the fastest pace in modern history.
On Friday, Mr. Trump renamed the Department of Defense as the Department of War, his 200th order in 228 days. The milestone surpasses every president in nearly a century, with only President Franklin D. Roosevelt issuing orders faster.
“President Trump is the most effective and hardest-working president in history,” said White House spokesperson Anna Kelly. She added the new name “makes clear that under President Trump our military is about not just defense, but also offense.”
Mr. Trump’s actions have ranged from cutting government spending and imposing tariffs to tightening immigration and restricting men from women’s sports. Executive orders carry the force of law but can be reversed by future presidents.
Historians note that Presidents Obama and George W. Bush reached 200 orders only in their second terms, while Reagan needed more than three years.
