TUC Rejects Planned 5% Fuel Tax, Threatens Nationwide Strike

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Monday rejected the Federal Government’s planned five per cent tax on petroleum products, describing the proposal as “a reckless act of economic wickedness.”

In a statement jointly signed by its President, Festus Osifo, and Secretary General, N.A. Toro, the union warned that it would shut down critical sectors of the economy if the government failed to withdraw the proposal within 14 days.

The TUC argued that Nigerians were already grappling with the fallout of fuel subsidy removal, rising inflation, and a weakened naira, stressing that the tax would worsen hardship.


El-Rufai Petitions PSC, IGP Over Kaduna Police Conduct

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Inspector-General of Police, accusing senior officers of the Kaduna State Police Command of unprofessional conduct and abuse of office.

The petition followed an invitation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) summoning El-Rufai and other politicians for questioning.


NUPENG Talks With Dangote Refinery Drag Into Late Night
