Several hours of heavy rainfall on Tuesday caused flash floods that paralysed traffic and disrupted business activities across major parts of Lagos.
LAGOS – Motorists and residents were stranded for hours on Tuesday as torrential rainfall led to flash floods that crippled movement across key areas of Lagos State.
The early morning downpour, which lasted several hours, submerged roads and caused widespread gridlock, leaving commercial and social activities paralysed. Many vehicles broke down in the waterlogged areas, compounding the situation.
Among the worst-hit locations were Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Alexander Way, Dolphin Estate, Lekki, and Obalende. Other flooded areas included Funsho Williams Avenue, Ikorodu Road, Agege, Ikeja, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Maryland, Oworonshoki, Oshodi, Apapa, and Alimosho.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had earlier forecast thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across Lagos and other parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
In its advisory, NiMet urged residents to avoid unnecessary movements during heavy rainfall, warning motorists against driving on flooded roads.
It also cautioned farmers against applying fertilisers or pesticides shortly before rainfall to prevent nutrient loss.
