Prince Harry donated $1.5 million to BBC Children in Need during his first UK visit in five months, pledging support for young people in violence-hit communities
Prince Harry has pledged one of the largest publicly disclosed donations by a British royal, giving 1.1 million pounds ($1.49 million) to the BBC Children in Need charity.
The Duke of Sussex announced the donation during a visit to Nottingham, his first trip back to the UK in five months. The money will support young people in communities affected by violence and knife crime, particularly in Nottingham, according to the charity.
“Nottingham has my respect, it always has, my commitment, and a permanent place in my heart,” said Harry, 40, who first visited the city with Meghan Markle on their initial official engagement in 2017.
Harry said his contribution alone would not be enough, urging government, police, schools and businesses to unite in addressing the issue. His visit also included laying flowers at Queen Elizabeth’s grave on the third anniversary of her death.
