Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Obasa says he may pursue governorship after leaving the Assembly, but insists the decision rests with party leadership.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has indicated he may pursue a governorship position after his legislative career, though he stressed that any move would depend on his party’s leadership.

Speaking during an interview on Television Continental (TVC) on Thursday, Obasa was asked to clarify earlier comments where he described his political trajectory as moving from councillor to speaker, and potentially to senator or governor.

“Every politician has ambitions, but you get to a stage where you cannot determine what comes next,” Obasa said. “If you believe in the party structure, you understand that it’s about consultation, consensus, and the leadership’s direction.”

The Speaker, who recently survived a political crisis that briefly led to his removal, suggested he is unlikely to seek a fifth term in the Assembly.

His remarks come amid growing speculation about potential successors to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose second term ends in 2027.
