Tyler Robinson, a Utah State student, has been arrested after confessing to his father that he assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a university rally.

Law enforcement has identified the suspect in the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old student at Utah State University.

Robinson was arrested late Thursday night in Washington, Utah, after a day-and-a-half-long manhunt.

According to the Daily Mail, Robinson confessed to his father, Matt Robinson, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. His father alerted authorities and helped secure his son before police took him into custody. President Donald Trump confirmed the arrest on Fox News, saying “someone very close” to the suspect had turned him in.

Robinson lived with his family in a \$600,000 six-bedroom home. His mother, Amber, works for a state-contracted disability support company. Family social media showed Robinson celebrating academic achievements and posing with firearms from an early age.

The suspect was captured after surveillance footage showed the gunman fleeing a rooftop near Utah Valley University, where Kirk was shot from roughly 200 yards away during a Turning Point USA event. Officials said Robinson faces the death penalty if convicted.

Kirk, 31, a father of two and a prominent MAGA figure, was pronounced dead after being struck by a single bullet.

His death prompted tributes nationwide, with Trump calling him “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk.” Utah Governor Spencer Cox vowed justice, writing, “We will bring to justice the individual responsible for this tragedy.”
