A Nigerian soldier abducted by terrorists in late July has escaped from captivity in Katsina State, according to security sources. Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the development on Friday, stating, “A soldier abducted by terrorists on July 27 along the Gusau–Yankara road has escaped from captivity in Katsina State.”

The soldier, identified as a Lance Corporal attached to Operation FANSAN YANMA, reportedly fled from a terrorists’ camp inside the notorious Kogo/Munhaye forest. He emerged on Thursday along the Faskari–Maigora road, where troops on routine patrol rescued him and evacuated him for urgent medical attention.

Security officials said the soldier appeared weak and traumatised after weeks in captivity but has been stabilised by military medics. “The Lance Corporal attached to Operation FANSAN YANMA escaped from Kogo/Munhaye Forest and surfaced along the Faskari–Maigora road on Thursday,” Makama added.

The soldier was seized by armed men terrorising communities along the Zamfara–Katsina axis and is now recovering under military care.
